Since childhood, Parker Sansing has had one dream, to play football at the University of Alabama.

That dream is now a reality, as the Homewood defensive back recently accepted a preferred walk-on offer from the 18-time national champion Crimson Tide.

“It’s a kid’s dream,” Sansing said. “One of the best memories I have is going outside one day as a kid, putting the Alabama jersey on, and playing like I was in a game.”

Fast-forwarding from his childhood, Sansing was a key contributor for the Patriots in their furthest playoff run since 2006. In the 2022 season, Sansing recorded 83 tackles, two interceptions and nine passes defended. Sansing was also recognized as a team captain and a Birmingham all-region honorable mention.

Competing with the numerous blue-chip talents Alabama recruits every year is no easy feat, but if one thing helps, it would be having family ties to the prestigious football team.

“I’ve always thought maybe I could do it,” Sansing said. “But when I got my grandfather (Walter Dean Sansing, a former Alabama football player) to send my tape in, the process moved along.”

The euphoria for Sansing finally came Feb. 14. Bob Welton, Alabama’s director of player personnel, called Sansing and extended the offer. When Sansing arrives in Tuscaloosa, he will join the team for practices, hoping to work up the ladder and make his way onto the playing field.
