Homewood show choir is hosting its annual Show Choir Preview Show. Primarily for showing off their competition season lineup to parents and peers, the preview has been in the works since August.

Unlike the Fall Show, this preview contains unseen material. It adds multiple songs yet to be performed, with Network, Nexus, Continuum and the Patriot Singers performing all of their complete shows.

The opening number is set to be an eerie rendition of Within Temptation’s “Mad World.” The choreography and facial expressions of the singers emulate a kind of possession, making this number both haunting and captivating for the audience. Senior Cohen Galloway is excited to finally perform.

“I’m just glad to put our show out there [with] costumes and everything,” Galloway said. “There will be people from other schools watching us and it gives us the opportunity to show off what our show is gonna look like in competition season.”

Dance captain Ava Pepper expresses her eagerness to perform.

“I’m excited to be able to wear our pretty dresses, and be in full hair and makeup and everything and for it all to come together,” Pepper said.

Network ends the show with an exhilarating mashup of “We Found Love” by Rihanna and “Elevate” by Big Time Rush. This number wraps up the theme of the show: that you should love others no matter the circumstances.

Senior dance co-captain Sandy Holmes is also glad to exhibit their hard work.

“[It’s] everything we’ve worked so hard for over the past nine months to finally [put] on stage in front of people,” Holmes said. “It’s a great feeling.”

Homewood’s girl group, Nexus, will be featuring a blast from the past, with hits from the ‘60s to the ‘80s like “Footloose,” “Material Girl,” and “Take On Me.” The girls don poodle skirts at the beginning before transitioning to songs from other periods.

The freshman group, Continuum, is performing a circus-inspired show, providing an amusing and energetic variety to do a preview. The Patriot Singers represent Homewood Middle School show choir with a rock-inspired show.

For many in the show choir, this will be their last preview show. It is director Scott Thorne’s last preview show in charge of the Homewood choir department. Seniors are also experiencing the finality of the show. The majority of seniors have participated and competed since middle school, so this makes the night an emotional one. Show choir co-president Josie Robertson highlights the memorable experience for those participating.

“Moments before we go on for finals, and we all hold hands and sing our ballad,” Robertson said. “It’s a very special moment where we all connect and it’s a very special moment for Homewood show choir.”
