The Patriot offense racked up 31 points against a talented Chilton County defense Thursday night on route to a victory that sees Homewood extend its unbeaten run in region play. 

A victory at Pelham next week will push the Patriots’ streak of playoff berths to 10 consecutive seasons. 

On the opening drive, the Tigers escaped two third-and-longs en route to a 14-yard field goal, keeping the Patriot defense on the field for seven minutes.

Wasting no time, the Patriots were led down the field by quarterback Woods Ray, who totaled 40 rushing yards which included a 36-yard run and a 4-yard touchdown.

It seemed like Chilton County would be able to replicate their efficiency of the first drive, but  Homewood defensive back Parker Sansing intercepted a pass in the Homewood red zone, taking it back for a pick-6.

The Patriot’s defense once again held strong, forcing a punt on Chilton’s next possession. Homewood then executed an efficient drive down the field, capped with a 3-yard Mondrell Odell touchdown rush.

Homewood ended the first half with a Whitt Armistead field goal, extending their lead to 24-3.

Out of halftime, Woods Ray dropped a 36-yard pass into the hands of Charlie Reeves. This led to a 8-yard touchdown catch for wide receiver Jackson Parris, tacking 7 more onto the lead.

The remainder of the third-quarter included a blocked field goal by Homewood, which turned into a Patriots’ fumble lost on the ensuing drive.

Three minutes into the fourth quarter, Chilton County finally reached the end zone. Tigers running back Rashard Childers pounded across the goal line making the score 31-10.

Chilton County forced a punt and sustained a long drive down into the Homewood red zone, however failed to add any points to the scoreboard as their field goal attempt came up short. The Patriots were able to milk the clock and complete the 21-point victory. 

Homewood travels to Pelham next week on Friday at 7 p.m.
