Senior Maddie Massie’s two goals and a hat trick from junior Will Jackson powered the boys and girls varsity soccer teams to victories in Friday night’s “Lakeshore Derby.”

The girls won 5-0 and the boys 4-0 in the rivalry with John Carroll that gets its nickname from a term used in English football for matches between neighboring teams.

Moved from John Carroll’s grass field because of Friday morning’s downpour of rain, the games took place at the Mega Field where the girls dominated whistle to whistle in the opening match, controlling possession of the ball for nearly the entire 80 minutes.

The McBride sisters, Annie and Mary Siena, and junior Sara Elliot notched a goal apiece behind Massie’s two, ending the match at comfortable 5-0.

Between the two varsity matches, the boys JV team won 6-0.

The boy’s match was more or less the same, senior Dean Armistead began the onslaught a few minutes in, and after that, there was no looking back.

Will Jackson tallied the next three goals of the match, and despite a Cavalier keeper change at half, Homewood took home the 4-0 win.

Both teams take the field again Tuesday night as the girls host Huntsville and the boys travel to Mountain Brook to take on the Spartans.
