The perfect outfit doesn’t have to be a hassle to find. Wednesday Wear is our weekly segment featuring popular clothing trends and fashion pieces curated by our staff, so you can find statement pieces that you like without going far.
Each week’s update will include a “Highlight of the Week” showcasing student outfits around the school that catch our eye. Be on the lookout for us, and we might feature you and your piece next, or message us, and you can nominate one of your friends to be the next week’s highlight.

Starting off, we have the Multicolor Cozy Knit Sweater by Lewkin. The start of fall means the start of sweater weather, but this year’s trends involve more than the average cardigan—instead the focus is grandpa sweaters. This means wool knit sweaters full of patterns that are often considered to be worn by grandpas, hence the name.
This type of aesthetic has been around for a long time, but has recently sprouted up again with the rising popularity of vintage clothing. It’s the perfect time, with the start of fall, to review your sweater rotation, and this a great piece to make that ideal lineup possible.

Secondly, we have the NAVY Lana Leather Hobo Bag by Nordstrom, a great example of the minimalist fashion wave. Inspired by the minimalist culture of recent trends, the Hobo Bag is indicative of the handbag industry’s recent shift to value utility over aesthetics.
Though minimalist, the bag highlights a leather material as well as gold utility, giving it a very well-made, quality look. The bag is a great pick for daily use and gives off a luxurious look while not being too flashy. Though not exclusive to the coming of colder weather, this bag will last you until many falls later as an all-around piece.

Third, we have the Grand Slam Tennis Skirt by Alo. Relishing the summer one last time is a great mindset to have, especially in Alabama, where it doesn’t get cold until Christmas.
This skirt embodies that feeling against the backdrop of the resurgence of athleisure wear. It is a pleated skirt with a lightweight fabric and pockets. It would be a great buy for anyone playing tennis and needing a comfortable skirt, but it’s also made for anyone trying to enjoy the summer weather while it’s still around.
Our highlight for this week is junior Anna Bayless Ydel, our first nominated highlight. She is wearing a jean mini skirt inspired by the fall season, paying homage to the timelessness of denim.
We don’t have the exact brand of skirt she is wearing, but we found a replica by JCrew called the Patch-pocket Denim Mini Skirt in Rinse Wash. Inspired by the colder weather, jeans have come back into our wardrobes. Even though jeans, jean skirts, jorts and other denim-inspired clothing have been popular for many years, styling of these pieces with miniature versions has become a lot more popular recently. It’s a great buy for the last few warm days before winter takes over, and they are a great way to appreciate the mini-sized fits you can throw.
