Prom season is upon the seniors of HHS. Months of planning and excitedly waiting finally come to an end as the big day arrives.
Girls spend hours scouring the internet for their dream dress, hoping that someone has not already chosen the one they want.
To ensure that no two people wear the same dress, a group chat of all the senior girls is created. Everyone must send their dress to the group chat to make sure there are no repeats.
The group chat is a fun way for the girls to see what everyone is wearing while also being a resource to eliminate dress duplicates.
There is a common trend in dress styles this year. Many girls have chosen a strapless style with spring colors and flower designs. In years past, this style has been increasingly popular, along with pleats and fit-and-flare shapes.
The trend of wearing floral, more flowy dresses has been the norm at Homewood for years. Unlike other schools who stick with the more extravagant, pageant-like dresses, donning sparkles and satin, the girls at Homewood have found their niche.
While getting all dressed up is fun for many girls, it comes with significant costs. Typical prom dresses range anywhere from $200 to $1000, many falling on the upper end of the spectrum. Other expenses include shoes, cosmetic appointments for hair, nails, and makeup, spray tans, accessories, and more.
Besides the dress, another prom tradition is driving to the lake to spend the weekend with friends.
This fun tradition requires lots of planning, including finding parent chaperones, drivers and meal plans, but getting to celebrate a senior milestone with friends is worth the logistical challenge for many seniors.
Common costs associated with the weekend include the lakehouse rental price, tickets for the dance, food for the entire weekend, bouquets and boutonnieres, party bus transportation and more, adding another level of commitment to the full prom experience.
After a fun-filled weekend at the lake comes Monday, otherwise known as “Senior Skip Day”.
This day, which all seniors look forward to, gives the tired seniors time to rest and relax, free from the stress of homework and school.
The halls remain void of seniors until Tuesday as they return, begrudgingly, back to the reality of school.
Over the next few days, people’s Instagram feeds are flooded with posts and stories as the seniors scour through their hundreds of pictures from the weekend and compile the perfect post to encapsulate their prom.
Prom is one of the last times the senior class is all together and the last dance they will attend as HHS students, making the planning challenges a worthy cause. It is a culmination of all the memories the senior class has made and a celebration as they move on to the next chapter of their lives.
