In its 22nd year of existence, dozens of Homewood residents gathered at the SoHo Plaza for the annual Taste of Homewood this past Thursday for moments of food and unity amongst the community.
Taste of Homewood is an annual event that has a rich tradition of bringing together local businesses and the community to celebrate the food culture in Homewood. Over the years, it has grown in both participation and popularity, becoming one of the most anticipated events in the area.
The event featured delicious offerings from popular local spots such as SoHo Social, Tina’s Market, Frothy Monkey, Slice Pizza & Brew, Urban Cookhouse, Ironwood Kitchen & Cocktails, Taco Mama, and Shiki Thai and Sushi.
These restaurants represented a mix of cuisines, from Italian to Thai, American comfort food, and more, ensuring there’s something for everyone’s taste buds. Buffalo Rock, Piggly Wiggly, and Alabev also provided beverages.
Marketing and Community Relations Manager for the Homewood Chambers of Commerce Mattie Kehl explained what the people attending the event this year were treated to.
“This year, attendees enjoyed a vibrant celebration of local food and drink which includes sampling delicious dishes from some of Homewood’s best restaurants along with live music, creating a lively atmosphere,” Kehl said. “A silent auction was also held, giving attendees the opportunity to bid on various items while supporting the community.”
The Homewood Chamber of Commerce played a crucial role in organizing and running the Taste of Homewood event. As the event’s host, the Chamber coordinated the participation of local restaurants, vendors, and other businesses.
“Our involvement is key in ensuring the event’s success, from logistics to promoting the event within the community,” Kehl said.
The Chamber is committed to supporting local businesses, and this event is one of the Chamber’s primary ways to raise awareness about Homewood’s diverse culinary offerings while also fostering a sense of community among residents and visitors alike.
There was also a launch of an initiative with the Grace Klein Community, a non-profit that provides for the poor, where they will rescue any leftover food. This aims to reduce food waste by donating leftover food to local organizations that help feed those in need.
Homewood resident Rosemary Weed is an avid Taste of Homewood goer and is also a part time member of the Chambers of Commerce. She enjoys Taste of Homewood because you get to socialize with lots of local businesses all in one place tying out their tasteful creations in a casual atmosphere.
“What I love about this event is seeing the community come out to celebrate and support our many fabulous restaurants and caterers,” Weed said.
The event was liked by many and the Chambers of Commerce hopes to improve on the event to attract more people.
