Senior festivities are in full swing as Homewood High School seniors wrap up their final time in high school.
On Friday, May 3, seniors enjoyed their senior carnival set up by SGA during their 6th and 7th periods. The carnival consisted of inflatables, a dunk tank, spike ball, food and much more.
Wednesday, May 8th was the senior’s last day of school. Seniors enjoyed breakfast before school and took pictures. Each student wore a shirt where they revealed their future plans, whether through college or not.
They also hosted a cookout during 5th and 6th period. Hotdogs and hamburgers were grilled and they hung out on the turf field.
Homewood High School senior Max McCutcheon really enjoyed the cookout.
“It was fun to have one last lunch with all of my friends,” McCutcheon said.
Seniors will go visit their elementary school on May 16 and 17. If they did not go to a Homewood City School elementary school, seniors can go tag along with their friends.
Maddie Klimcak is looking forward to the elementary walkthrough.
“I think it will be nostalgic to walk through where it all started,” Klimcak said.
At the visit, they will wear their caps and gowns and walk through the halls. Elementary students will sit in the halls and cheer them on.
Homewood High School teacher and SGA sponsor Michele Cooley helps plan majority of the senior events. The senior walkthrough is “a motivation for the younger kids, but also a way for [seniors] to see where they started,” Cooley said.
On May 17th, seniors will have practice for awards night. After the practice, the senior picnic is held at Patriot Park. Seniors use this time to bring their yearbooks to get them signed and hang out with their friends one last time before graduation and awards night.
Awards night is held the day before graduation.
“It’s an opportunity to celebrate individuals’ accomplishments,” Cooley said.
Students will receive awards for their various achievements including honor grads, athletics, scouts, leadership, community service and more.
Finally, graduation will take place on May 18 at 5 pm.
“Everything else leads up to graduation, it is the culminating event,” Cooley said.
