Standout quarterback Woods Ray signed with Dartmouth College after committing on Dec.14. As a three-year starter, Woods Ray will go down as “one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play at Homewood,” according to head coach Ben Berguson.

Ray had a dominant senior season for the Patriots, racking up 2,677 passing yards and 27 touchdowns through the air and 796 rushing yards on the ground with 12 touchdowns.

Ray was the engineer behind Homewood’s deep playoff run, including the 27-point comeback against Saraland in the third round. When the dust settled on the season, Ray received many awards for his outstanding play, including the Birmingham Quarterback Club’s “Offensive Back of the Year” Award.

Ray is “super excited” to get to Hanover and join the Dartmouth program.

Defensive back Clay Burdeshaw accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Samford University after being offered on Jan. 13.

This past season, Burdeshaw was a “leader” for Homewood’s defense. He comes from a long line of Homewood football players, as he is the third Burdeshaw brother that Berguson has coached.

Burdeshaw recorded 98 tackles and two interceptions this fall season.

Berguson believes Burdeshaw’s great attitude will lead to a successful career for the defensive back at the next level.
