Poetry: “Trench Warfare”

Poetry: Trench Warfare

The following is a writing submission to Homewood High School’s literary and creative magazine The Menagerie.

“Trench Warfare” by Rawa Almansoob

Everyone is quiet

Fields were all red

Red, not with the color of  pretty Dianthus flowers

Red like the color of blood

The blood of soldiers flowing through the grounds like a flood

Everyone is quiet

I looked at the dead bodies with no name

I felt the feeling in me it was a feeling of shame

Everyone is quiet

I sat down and started to pray

As everyone stood still and lay

Everyone is quiet

Everyone is dead
