The Patriots volleyball team made light work of its opponents in Thursday night’s area tournament.

Homewood hosted as the No. 1 seed and matched up against four-seed Jackson Olin in the first round, downing them in three sets with ease.

The Patriots then showed exactly why the best defense is a great offense in the championship match, not allowing the second-seeded Minor to reach double digits at any point in the straight-set rout.

Junior Mira McCool spearheaded Homewood’s attack throughout the afternoon, accompanied by classmates Carson Jarmon and Grace Brown, as well as younger sister Freshman sensation Ellis McCool.

And of course, it would not be a Patriot victory without the standout play of both senior captains Sydney Humes and Mary Przybysz. The latter had her hands all over every possession and Humes’ defensive efforts (however few and far between) were top of the line, per usual.

That being said, the job’s not done.

Homewood now sets their eyes on the Huntsville Von Braun Center, the site of the regional tournament Wednesday, October 19, as they face off against their first-round opponent Decatur (16-39) at 3:30 pm.
